OSI is a privately held company that has become a worldwide leader in the food processing, packaging and manufacturing industry in the last several years. Founded in 1909, the company supplies both vegetarian and non-vegetarian foods for distribution in the United States and abroad.
Presently, OSI operates 65 food processing plants in over 17 countries and they employ over 20,000 people. In a recent acquisition, the company purchased a former Tyson Foods plant in Chicago for $7.4 million dollars. The 200,000 square foot facility was scheduled to be closed in October of last year but was since purchased by OSI to expand their infrastructure growth potential.
In a statement published last June in 4-Traders.com by the company’s Senior Vice President of Operations in North America Kevin Scott, he outlined his belief of what the new facility will offer the company. He enthusiastically stated that the new facility will provide a better infrastructure to support the company’s continued business growth.
In addition, he believes this purchase will enhance their capabilities to meet the revolving needs of their customers and the growth platform they are creating for their company’s vision. He noted that he believes their success is based on the fact that the company puts the needs and desires of their customer first and that this platform has been the key to their successful global growth.
In 2016 it was announced that OSI had forged ahead into new ground breaking territory and shattered previous business portfolios in years past under the guidance of their CEO and chairman Sheldon Lavin. In fact, they were recognized and listed as number 66 of the “The Top 100 Food and Beverage Companies in the World”. This new company recognition shows just how much the company dynamics and vision has changed just in the last several years as this was the first time the company was recognized in “The Top 100 Food and Beverage Companies in the World” list.
Additionally, in 2016, Sheldon Lavin was recognized by India’s Vision World Academy where he was given a Global Visionary Award. The company has holdings and a food processing and manufacturing base in India that is widely recognized as a leader in the industry for that country. OSI Group has food processing and manufacturing plants in: Austria, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China and Germany, Hungary, India, Japan and the Netherlands as well as, the Philippines, Poland, Spain, Taiwan, Taiwan, the Ukraine, the United Kingdom and the United States.
