Sheldon Lavin Had A Vision For OSI Group

OSI Group is one of the most recognized brands in food manufacturing. It has an international presence with processing plants operating in several different continents. The OSI Group workforce spans the globe and has been in existence for nearly 100 years. Sheldon Lavin joined the OSI team in the 1950’s. His relationship with company started when OSI Group was a family-run organization known as Otto and Sons. Sheldon had no experience when he began his journey with OSI. However, he would discover that he had a great passion for the industry.

Sheldon Lavin began his business career in the banking industry where he owned a consulting firm. Otto and Sons was offered a chance to be the sole provider of meat to McDonald’s, which was expanding into an international restaurant chain. Otto and Sons would need to build a new meat processing facility in order to meet the demands of the McDonald’s Corporation. However, the founders did not have the financial resources to take on the contract alone. Sheldon Lavin was brought in to oversee the financial aspect of business deal.

Sheldon Lavin began as a consultant with Otto and Sons. Over time he developed a great relationship with Ray Kroc and the McDonald’s Corporation. McDonald’s specifically asked that Lavin be brought in to work with the organization full-time. Lavin agreed because of his relationship with McDonald’s and the ability to have equal partnership with the original founders.

By the 1960’s the original founders of Otto and Sons had settled into retirement. Lavin took over full control of the organization and it became known as OSI Group. He immediately began to stretch the interest of OSI Group into international territory. The company opened manufacturing plants in Europe and the Asia-Pacific.

Sheldon Lavin believes in growth and is proud of the fact that he is building an organization where people want to work. OSI Group has an extremely low turnover rate among staff because it specializes in recruiting the right type of candidates for the OSI team.
